First Bank of Berne refuses government Bailout TARP funds

January 22, 2009

Berne, IN - First Bank of Berne will not be taking any of the government bailout (TARP) funds announced Charles Isch, president of the 118 year old locally owned bank. Mr. Isch stated, "We are strong, secure and well capitalized. We simply don't need the funds. We were not involved in the sub prime mortgage issues of the past years, and we really are not having the problems you hear about in the news with the big banks. We are a safe main street community bank, as we always have been. In fact, 2008 was the best year in the history of our bank. We continue to take in deposits and lend the money back to our communities."

First Bank of Berne, one of the oldest independent and locally owned community banks in the area has been serving communities in the local markets since 1891. Small town, traditional family values and the dedication of employees round out the reputation for which First Bank of Berne is known.

First Bank of Berne continues to be involved in and committed to serve the Adams, Wells, Jay, and Van Wert county markets.
