First Bank of Berne named Indiana's best performing bank at mid-year 2008

Berne, IN - The best performing bank in Indiana at mid-year 2008 is First Bank of Berne, originating in Berne, Indiana; according to the Mid-Year 2008 Indiana Bank Performance Report, which is published by Financial Management Consulting Group, a Kentucky based bank consulting firm. The report analyzes banks on various financial factors such as interest margin, efficiency, asset quality (loans) and profits. First Bank of Berne had the best average ranking for all categories.

"To achieve the top overall performance ranking among all banks in your state, there has to be superior management that is committed to superior performance," according to Timothy Finn, a partner in the consulting firm.

First Bank of Berne president, Charles E. Isch, stated that they are humbled by the report. "We are a true community bank that tries very hard to be the best we can be in the communities we serve. Our employees enjoy working with our customers and treat them as they would want to be treated. We don't have goals of becoming the largest bank in the state or the most profitable, but we always have been a very strong, stable, and efficient bank. In spite of the current economy, we are having our best year ever," Isch said.

First Bank of Berne was chartered in 1891, has $394 million in assets, and operates a total of eight offices in Berne, Decatur, Bluffton, Portland, and Van Wert, OH.
